Inspired by the noble cause of education and philanthropic zeal, a group of Kolkata based like minded industrialists joined hands to form a public charitable educational foundation – Kalyan Bharti Trust (KBT) – to further their dreams of serving the Society. Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HIT-K), established by KBT in 2001, while following the norms and syllabi of the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), its affiliating university, ensures that students become self-motivated and employable. The Heritage Institute, inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India,is located on a prime land at Anandapur behind Ruby General Hospital and halfway between the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and the Basanti Expressway.

Training & Placement Cell compliments the efforts of the members of faculty by organizing value-addition programmes and providing placement opportunities to students. It acts as one of the major interfaces with the corporate sector and helps in developing the industry-academia inter-relationship.
The Cell continuously co-ordinates with various industries and organizations for placement of its students. It has already successfully placed a high percentage of students in industry. It actively obtains feedback from organization and conveys it to respective departments which, in turn, train students accordingly, thereby increasing their hit ratio.
