On October 1, 1896, at the age of 28, Fritz Hoffmann La Roche launched Hoffmann La Roche company as the successor company to Hoffmann, Traub & Co in Basel, Switzerland. F. Hoffmann La Roche AG is a global health-care company that operates worldwide under two divisions: Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics. Its holding company is Roche Holding AG. Now company also owns the American biotechnology company Genentech, which is a wholly owned affiliate, and the Japanese biotechnology company Chugai Pharmaceuticals as well as the Tucson, Arizona-based Ventana.
Roche is the third-largest pharma company worldwide. They are also the world’s number 1 in biotech with 14 biopharmaceuticals on the market. Over half of the compounds in their product pipeline are biopharmaceuticals. Roche is one of the few companies increasing their dividend every year, for 2013 as the 27th consecutive year.
