Established in 1983, Thadomal Shahani Engineering College is founded by the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board. It is the first and the oldest private (government unaided) engineering institute affiliated to the federal University of Mumbai, one of the oldest universities of Asia. The institute is commonly referred to as TSEC. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is graded as an ‘A’ grade educational institution. TSEC is ranked 28th in the list of Top 50 Private Engineering Colleges of India by Mint, India’s second largest business newspaper and the official partner of The Wall Street Journal in India.
TSEC was first college in Mumbai to start with B.E biotechnology degree course in year 2004 approved by AICTE, India. Department of biotechnology, TSEC focuses on various areas of study like Applied Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess and Enzyme Technology, Unit operations, Plant Tissue Culture, Immunotechnology, Genetic Engineering , Bio informatics, Fermentation Technology, Downstream Processing, Bioseperation techniques, Food Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Protein Engineering.
