The TTC with its three institutions viz, TU, TP and TCIRD, is today a unique Campus in our country with extraordinary potential for development of indigenous technology and its engineering industries.
Biotechnology at Thapar Technology Campus was initiated in 1993 with Ph.D program and was subsequently supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to start M.Sc. Biotechnology program in 1999. B.Tech. program was started in 2003 followed by M.Sc. Microbiology and M. Tech Biotechnology in 2011 and 2012 respectively. B.Tech Biochemical Engineering is being initiated from July 2014 with the support from Department of Chemical Engineering.
The Department sports a unique position in North India as it is supported by two DST (Department of Science & Technology, GoI) sponsored unit’s viz. TIFAC-CORE and STEP–TU. These extended units of the department are equipped with state of the art research facilities for hands on training of students as well as research professionals.
Focus of the department is to excel in academics and research in frontier areas of modern biotechnology by providing personal mentoring, hands on training and industrial exposure to the undergraduate and postgraduate students

CILP arranges campus interviews for placement of final year students of all branches by inviting various Public Sector and Private organization. A data base of organizations is available with CILP which is continuously updated.
All students of various BE engineering disciplines are required to spend a full six month’s semester in the industry completing an industrial project under the joint supervision of industry supervisors and TU faculty. Similarly the students of MCA do a System Development Project (SDP) of sixteen weeks duration, the students of M.Sc spend a six weeks summer training & students of MBA spend two months training in the industry. This provides a system of education that formally integrates academic studies with related work experience. More than 150 Industries provided Project slots/Training to our students, CILP assists in arranging project semester slots for various branches of engineering.
CILP also assists in arranging six week’s summer training for students of BE IIyr of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics (Instrumentation & Control), Electrical and Computer Engineering disciplines.
